Hi! Welcome to Romeo's Rat Pack!
You found your way to my website so I assume you're thinking about adopting pet rats. There are rat breeders all around the world. For good reason, domesticated rats make wonderful pets.
I consider RRP (Romeo's Rat Pack) a small rattery. I've been breeding domestic rats since April 2015, though I've been a rat owner for 20+ years. I can't imagine ever not having rats.
RRP is located in Des Moines, Iowa. Unfortunately I'm unable to ship or transport my rats though I have had adopters travel to Des Moines from Nebraska, Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois just to adopt from me. I also have rats in Las Vegas, Nevada and Oklahoma.
I'm a hands on breeder.
My babies experience their first human touch when they are just hours old; as I examine each baby, looking for a full belly of milk, overall health, injuries that may have occurred during birth and of course how many are boys and how many are girls. I want each and every baby to have the best chance possible to thrive.
I continue handling babies throughout the time they are with me. By the time they are ready to join your family, RRP rats are shoulder trained, easy to handle and are very people oriented.
MY RATS HOUSING
All my rats are treated as pets. Their large homemade cages are kept in my living room where they get lot's of attention and are exposed to daily activities, noises, visitors and seeing other pets.
MY GOALS FOR BREEDING
I believe my rat's mental health is equally as important as their physical health and sound temperament. Colors and markings are last on my list though it is nice to have goals for improving or introducing new colors, fur types and I love those big round dumbo ears.
My focus is to produce healthy, happy rats so that you, the adopter, can enjoy your rat owning experience.
My rat's diet is primarily a good quality lab block (Mazuri 6F), though they also get broccoli, kale, blueberries and raw oatmeal.
All the levels in my cages are lined with shredded Aspen. I also hang plastic baskets in my cages since they are easier for me to keep clean than fabrics.
